Talent Optimization and Hiring Strategy
When it comes to running a business, success is highly dependent on the staff and those in leadership positions. Hiring the right people is so crucial and shouldn’t be taken lightly — they are the ones that will get your business where you want it to be.
One of our guests this month on AHA Business Podcast was Steve Picarde Jr, president of PI Mid Atlantic. They specialize in talent optimization and helping businesses build their team with different hiring tools. One of the most important tools they have developed is the Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment. This assessment provides information on a candidate’s core behaviors, drives strengths and weaknesses, individual needs, motivators and more. It is quick and easy quiz for anyone to take, and is key for employers to place new hires in the right position and build a team that will support the company’s goals.
However, this doesn’t mean that hiring the right staff alone is the answer to guaranteed success. “Where we really start with our clients is just understanding where they want to go, what’s the strategic direction that they want to take,” explained Picarde while discussing the importance of strategizing and goal setting in leadership positions. “The hard part for a lot of organizations is how are we going to get there.” It is important to assess your values and look at the bigger picture. Can you visualize your goals and identify the key steps to achieve them? What type of people are going to help you reach those goals? “Where we spend most of our time is actually in strategy,” says Picarde, “what are our goals and objectives and how aligned are we as a leadership team to actually be able to deliver on that and execute on those ideas and objectives.” Then you can find the people who are going to support and execute those goals through the PI assessment.
Aside from finding the right people to work for you, it is also a great tool to help you keep your employees. “People don’t quit jobs, they quit managers,” said Picarde. Leaders and business owners can use this on themselves to determine their own strengths and weaknesses and determine what flaws they may have as a leader. “For me it depends on what they’re doing, what they need to change, and how they are going to do to adapt,” said Allan, explaining how he coaches business owners.They have to be willing to then make these changes to serve their team effectively. The whole team needs to be on the same page and utilize each other’s skills to the fullest. “It’s a simple model,” Picarde explained, “Let’s figure out what makes people good, what strengths they have, and let’s get them playing to those strengths because when they do they are going to be more productive, more engaged, and happier.”
